General Information

On September 13-15, 2006, the Texas Water Monitoring Council will sponsor the sixth Texas Water Monitoring Congress in Austin. We will be celebrating the 10th year of the Congress. This meeting offers those involved in water monitoring an opportunity to see presentations on current issues, talk about issues, network with colleagues, share successes, and go back to their own programs with new ideas.

In addition, on September 12, 2006, a free public outreach symposium will be held. This meeting, offered as a pre-conference symposium of the 2006 Texas Water Monitoring Congress, is the second in a series known as “Connecting the Dots”, will provide a forum for resolving gaps in communication between the public and local, state and federal water resource programs. Details are here.

The Congress schedule includes plenary presentations and focus group discussions. This is a working conference that will provide an opportunity for communication, cooperation, and collaboration among individuals and organizations involved in Texas water monitoring. In addition, exhibitors will be sharing the latest water monitoring technology and services at the Congress.

The Congress begins at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at the J.J. Pickle Research Campus - Commons Bldg. and concludes at noon on Friday, September 15, 2006. The registration fees for the Congress are $100 if received before August 31, 2006 and $125 thereafter. Registration information and forms are available on the TWMC web site listed below.

All participants will receive the 2006 Congress Proceedings, which will include the recommendations from the Congress. This document will also be presented to Legislators and key decision managers in time for the next Texas legislative session.

Plenary Session

Focus Groups/Breakout Sessions

The core of the Congress will be five focus groups that will convene in breakout sessions: Surface Water Resources (quantity), Surface Water Quality, Public Outreach, Groundwater Issues, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Applications and Solutions. Each focus group will have relevant presentations, review recommendations made by the 2004 Congress, assess progress, and develop recommendations for current and future goals and actions. In addition, volunteers will be recruited to fulfill or follow-up on the recommendations of the 2006 Congress. The five focus groups will present and discuss the results from each focus group.
